Softball's Almost Over and Crossfit results
Posted On 08/12/2008 18:08:59 by Spouter

I played in three softball leagues this year and in two of them, my teams ended up winning the league.  I had promised in one of my earlier Crossfit blogs to tell you how the exercise program affected my softball.  Well, for the first time in 6 years, I was named to the All-Star team and in addition to that, I was named the B-Division MVP.  I think that says a little something about the effectiveness of the program.

The softball season is all but over now, with only the Gay World Series remaining.  It's in Seattle this year during the last week in August.  My team decided not to go, but another team picked me up.  I'm excited.  Wish me luck.  This team actually won the World Series a few years ago, though they just got on a roll and are not consistently good enough to be that competitive.

There are only two teams in the Washington DC gay league for the B division.  To give you an idea of how competive this division is, I played college baseball, albeit for literally the smallest school in the country with a baseball team at Hillsdale Baptist...but college baseball is college baseball.  Besides, I made the All Mid-West Regional team in the National Christian College Athletic Association with a .356 average my Freshman and only year I played.  So that puts it a bit into perspective when I say I just now made the All-Star team for the softball league.

Still...neither team is competitive on the national level at tournaments, normally speaking.  A few years ago, my team got on a roll at the Fort Lauderdale tournament and got 3rd place..and as I mentioned, the other team won the World Series.  At no other time has either team cracked the top 5 at any tournament in over 6 years.  There are rumors that we will combine the best players from both teams and make one team.  I sure hope that happens because we should finally be consistently competitive on the national level.  I'm tired of losing!  Here's to hoping.

Anyway...I have had a great summer so far and hope you all have too, but it's coming to a close.  If you have any plans that you wanted to accomplish but haven't, you'd better get going! :-)
